Star Trek: Picard – Please Don’t Be Rubbish!

Note* I started to write this post just as Star Trek: Picard started…I will return to finish it soon.

Jean-Luc Picard has returned!

Time to break out the Amazon Prime Video for the second time in six months. Being able to choose what Premier League football match I wanted to watch in December felt like a revelation. The next step in the evolution of what we were promised by the Premier League when it began in 1992. The same fast paced and entertaining football, but with a shiny new Amazon coat.

Amazon Prime again brings us our next familiar endeavour that ‘s been given a new lick of paint – this time in the form of Star Trek: Picard.

Patrick Stewart last played Jean-Luc Picard back in 2002 in Star Trek: Nemesis – an underwhelming film that struggled to make a splash when it went up against the The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers at the box office. If it had been a boxing match, the ref would have stopped it after the first round. The Next Generation crew were done on the big and small screen – or so we thought,

So here we are – 18 years later – and Star Trek fans are losing their minds waiting for the return of their 70+ bald hero to the new streaming world that we now live in. Based on what we’ve seen from the trailers, our hero will be bringing the gravitas that he’s brought to all of his roles. But this time he’s been joined by a cast of fresh-faced, young people tasked with handling most of the running and action set-pieces.

Just like the recent Star Trek: Discovery…

SPOILER* It wasn’t a complete success, but it was a lot better than Star Trek: Discovery
